During the early 1980s, a group of Rosewood community members identified the urgent need a for local aged care facility. Following the establishment of a Committee and a community-wide fundraising effort, the Rosewood Aged Person’s Home opened its doors in 1987 as a 26-bed hostel.
In May 1990, the name was changed to Cabanda (which we believe means ‘Our Home’) and Cabanda continues to be community owned and operated in Rosewood.
Today, Cabanda Care has a 52 unit Residential Village comprising 42 Independent Living Units and 10 Long Term Rental Units, as well as Permanent Residential Care, Centre Based Respite, Dementia Unit and Social Support Group. Cabanda also provides Home Care, Meals on Wheels, Community Transport and the Cabanda Café.
Cabanda is the largest employer in Rosewood and the vision of residents living in a community with those they have known all their lives has been maintained.
